Turnways Therapies was born from CAMHS practitioners who worked for several years in the NHS, in hospitals, schools and prisons, alongside psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. We refer to ourselves as Creative Therapists, offering a diverse range of art, drama, dance, music therapy, and CBT.
Turnways recognises the power of creative therapy for those with mental, physical, and neurological difficulties, both within institutions and in the community. We use a range of spaces to practice with our service-users and recognise the importance of doing so in a private and safe space to encourage play and creativity. This includes; local theatres, church halls, community centres, schools, and even garden areas.
Often people feel that they must be budding actors, or have refined artistic or musical talent to benefit from creative therapy. However, Turnways has witnessed how creative therapies allow people to find a voice, and to feel a confidence they did not know they had. For creative therapy to be effective, service-users do not have to be ‘good’ at it, nor are they required to know anything about the art form. These therapies promote creative explorations of difficult feelings, and enable service-users to experience a new perspective in relation to a problem.

Amanda Strevett: Founder and Director of Turnways Therapies
Turnways therapies strongly believes that a trusting therapeutic relationship with both the individual and their family is crucial to promoting positive outcomes. That is why our practice is non-judgemental, inclusive, empathetic, and respectful of personal boundaries.
We know that everyone is capable of finding a creative solution to problems, and that everyone can be the best version of themselves, with encouragement and practice.
