We know that support for parents and carers is few and far between. Turnways feels strongly that adults deserve care, and that children and young people should not bear this responsibility. Turnways therapists have worked extensively with Young Carers Groups and witness first-hand when young people are caregiving for their families.
Equally, we see many adults looking after vulnerable children, whilst forgetting their own needs. Adoptive parents, SGOs and Foster carers have a difficult job in parenting children and teenagers with trauma. Turnways understands the difficulties of parenting, especially with children and adolescents that are adopted or looked after. This can result in carers experiencing burn out, stress, and subsequent illnesses.
Turnways is here to support adults both with their own trauma, and secondary trauma. We also support those who work with trauma in their careers may not have access to supervision, such as social workers, the police, managers, teachers, and more.
